Jonathan Sykes - Running in Aid of Scope

As you may be aware, I am now registered for the London Marathon in April 2008 and apart from hitting the big 50 in 2008 – this Year also represents the time that my first Son ( Christopher Jon )who was born in South Africa would have been celebrating his 25th Birthday. Sadly and quite cruelly he passed away before reaching his first birthday due to suffering from a Cerebral Palsy condition from which he never recovered, despite ongoing efforts to identify the problem and find a cure.

It is for this reason that I am running the Marathon next year in order to give something back to the Charity Scope which supports Cerebral Palsy and tries to provide those who suffer from the condition a slightly better quality of Life.I would like to ask you to support this cause by reaching into your Hearts (and your pockets) and to kindly make a donation which will go to the SCOPE charity after the run. Should you wish to make a donation, I would be most grateful, if once having done so, if you could send me a confirmation of your name, address and the amount donated in order that I can track the amounts and also send out acknowledgements after the race – Thank You.

Kindly click here for the confirmation of the Charity and the letter of fundraising authority along with my fundraiser’s card and the only good picture I have of Christopher. There are a number of options for making donations depending on your location but please note that all Donations should please be made by the end FEBRUARY 2008 – Thank You.

Your Goodwill and assistance in achieving the fundraising target will be greatly appreciated – My Sincere Thanks go to all of You. For those wishing to know a little more abour Cerebral Palsy and SCOPE , I have pleasure in presenting the following information to you.:

SCOPE is the UK’s leading disability charity working with Children and adults with Cerebral Palsy. It’s aim is that disabled people achieve equality , a society in which they are valued and have the same human and civil rights as everyone else.

Cerebral Palsy is a condition – not a disease. If a person has cerebral palsy it means that part of their brain is not working properly or has not developed. This will have happened before they were born, during birth or in early childhood. The affected area of the brain is that which affects certain body movements and motor mechanisms. In some people Cerebral Palsy is barely noticeable whilst in others it will be very pronounced.

Every 6 hours a child is born with Cerebral Palsy and currently 1 in every 400 children are affected by it. SCOPE and its fieldworkers are on hand to offer help and support at that vital time when families learn that their child is disabled and they do not know where to turn. ( 25 years ago this is how we felt when our Son was afflicted with this condition and since then a great deal of progress has been made to identify, treat and manage a greatly overwhelming and emotional condition and its attendant stresses to both patient and family alike.)

Thank You Once again for your Support.

Jonathan Sykes.

Jon Marks - Running in Aid of Water Aid

I will be running the London Marathon on Sunday April 13th and am raising money for 'Water Aid' a small charity which provides clean water supplies in third world countries. Please consider I was over 16 stone and 42 years old when I began training for this 26 mile run so I need your help. One of the main reasons for choosing this charity is that they are only small and guarantee that nearly all the donations will be utilised properly and not wasted on administration costs. Please could you make a donation to Water aid direct through my fund raising website at www.justgiving.com/jonmarks1 and make someone happy today.

Thank you and regards,
Jon Marks
